This quaint craft brewery is owned and operated by two brothers who aim to create incredible brews for the people of Manassas to enjoy. They started brewing in 2013 and have since expanded to over 400 beers. They have a wide range of beers available for you to try, and I recommend you check out their tasting flights before heading out to sample all of them.
The Great Manassas Railroad Museum
You’ll want to head over to the Great Manassas Railroad Museum if you’re interested in the history of this famous train line. It’s a beautiful, well-designed building that takes you back to the days when trains would travel from Washington DC to Manassas. The museum is free to enter and offers plenty of information about the area and its role in the Civil War.
The Manassas Junction Railway (the Orange and Alexandria Railroad) connected Alexandria to the Northern Neck of Virginia, with stops at Gainesville, Woodbridge, Fredericksburg, and Manassas. This was the first large scale military use of railroad transportation, and the railroad played a key role in the Civil War.
General Irvin McDowell used the railroad during the war to transport supplies and troops from Washington DC to Gordonsville. He planned to seize the town of Manassas, establish a supply depot, and march south along the line to Gordonsville.
When the Union Army reached Gordonsville, they would follow the lines of the Virginia Central railroad and captured Richmond, the Confederate capital, in 1861. The train service was the deciding factor in a major victory for the Union and helped secure America’s capital’s future.
